Lightning twins!

“Your inseparable bond is your greatest strength.”
Bios
Volt
Diligent, determined and naturally gifted with speed, this only grew once he unlocked his innate electric powers. When he combines the two, his speed is comparable to that of the likes of Sonic, but he still has a lot of development to go through if he ever wishes to surpass the blur himself.
Born with the ability to control negatively charged electricity, he uses it to enhance his natural physical capabilities, namely his speed, strength and endurance. This means that he excels in physical, close-quarters combat, where he is able to stun his opponents by using his high speed to deliver rapid blows to overwhelm them. Although a wisecracker and a joker, his fiery personality comes with a fiery temper, which can lead him into making rash decisions. He can be very driven at times, but lacks the ability to think things through, often diving headfirst into situations and relying on old school improv to get him through.
Fortunately for him, he has his sister to keep him in check, but acts in a brash manner towards her most of the time, because of how much she likes to annoy him. Regardless, he remains very protective of her, acting as the big brother even though their births are only minutes apart.

Lex
Like her brother, Lex is also naturally gifted with speed, enhanced by her electric powers. Although Volt can achieve higher top speeds, she is more gifted with the manipulation of electricity, able to come up with creative techniques which she often shows off to her brother to poke fun at his inability to do so. Though she goes by the nickname ‘Lex’, her full name is actually Electra.
Born with ability to control positively charged electricity, Lex uses her cunning smarts to outwit her opponents, keeping them on their toes with her fancy techniques before slipping in for the lethal strike. Playful in nature, she constantly annoys her brother for fun, but she really cares for him deep down. Like her assassin mother, Lex will always pay attention to the finer details, preferring to have a plan in place rather than relying on spontaneous improvisation.
Often acting as the voice of reason in many scenarios due to her more rational way of thinking, but this could also be down to her tendency to overthink things, which causes her to worry a lot. She can also be somewhat of a crybaby.
Although they are formidable with their powers alone, they create a much bigger threat when they work together. Since they conduct opposite charges, they subconsciously stabilise each other, and separating for long periods of time leads to adverse effects on the two…
BACKSTORY
The small village of Mazuri is just one of many located in the vast lands of the savannah. From one of these other villages, hail the Celeranyx — a tribe of prideful Cheetahs, naturally agile and skilled in craftsmanship; of weapons in particular.
Although contact with other species was not forbidden, members were generally reserved to themselves as they lived in peaceful isolation from the rest of the world. Similar to the Soultouch ability of the Echidnas, the Cheetahs’ soullink made them capable of finding their lifelong mate simply by laying eyes on them, and it was through this ability that many were able to find their partners.
Blaze’ world, being a parallel to Sonic’s, also had an instance of this Cheetah tribe — the Alacrinyx, but the dimensional barrier between the two would prevent each of them knowing of the other’s existence. This would continue to be, until the events of Sonic Rush took place. Eggman stealing the Sol Emeralds from Blaze and bringing them to Sonic’s world inadvertently caused the two worlds to begin merging, until Blaze retrieved them all and returned them to her world shortly after.
During this time however, crossing between worlds became possible at particular locations across the world. One of these locations happened to be between the villages of both Cheetah tribes, but the sudden mass appearance of foreigners from another tribe led both to believe that they were being invaded.
A war broke out between the tribes, each fighting to defend their homeland which had been blurred between the dimensional rift. After the two worlds split again, members of each tribe were left stranded on the other side. Nonetheless, the war continued separately in both worlds.
A tale of forbidden love was woven between Azter — a proud male warrior from the tribe of Sonic’s world, and Amara — skillful female assassin from the tribe of Blaze’s world, the two connecting through their soullink the instant they met. Never before had such a phenomenon occurred, but neither could ignore their feelings. The fruits of their love bore two children – twins of whom they named Volt and Electra, due to a special gift they appeared to possess – electrokinesis.
Not wanting their children to grow up on split sides, each parent begged their respective war chief to meet and discuss peace talks. Nobody had ever questioned the credibility of the soullink ability before, and the birth of the twins was proof that it worked even between foreign tribes. Following the eventual meeting of the chiefs, it was decided that the Alacrinyx would be allowed to coexist in the same village as the Celeranyx.
It is unknown how the war ended in Blaze’s world.
No other Cheetahs from both tribes were able to connect with each other like Volt and Electra’s parents had, and so they remained the only hybrid species of the two tribes. Although their parents remained respected amongst the older generations for breaking the conflict between the tribes, the children did not share the same privilege amongst the younger generation.
A combination of being envied because of the significance of their births and not belonging exclusively to one side caused the other cubs to shun the twins, often excluding them from things such as play activities. Being different was something the two had to come to terms with, but it was made slightly easier by the fact that they had each other. For the most part, their lives consisted of the usual brother-sister shenanigans, whilst their parents kept the secret of their powers hidden away from them, for their own safety.
At the peak of their routine bickering, a simple spark between the two was the first hint of their powers. Initially, neither could control it very well, and it was seemingly driven by intense emotions. It was noted by their parents however, that the two seemed to balance each other out in close proximity, which was probably the reason that there had been no sudden outbursts from either twin prior. Realising that they would be unable to stop the two from experimenting with their abilities, their parents decided to help them learn the basics, to bring it under control at least.
Training their children proved to be difficult without any knowledge of the power themselves, but they were able to catch on fairly quickly. Curiously, each twin adapted the usage of their powers in two very different ways. Volt was more proficient at using it internally to enhance his natural physical capabilities, namely his speed, strength and endurance. Electra on the other hand, was able to find more creative uses for her powers externally, namely forming various objects and shapes out of it.
Their charges appeared to be opposites, evident by the different colour of their electricity. Although they were able to catch on quickly, they were never able to fully push themselves; under strict instruction to keep their powers hidden around others.
The aftermath of the dimensional rift had left behind a blanket mixture of Chaos and Sol Energy shrouding the village, which eventually settled into an invisible, yet impenetrable dome around the outskirts. For years this went unnoticed by the tribe members, none having any reason to venture out any further than the plains. None except the adventurous and free spirits of the twins, of course! Out here, they could practice using their powers unhindered and safely out of harm’s way.
Dwindling crop yields forced the villagers to farm further out, in turn forcing the twins to sneak out further to stay hidden. Eventually, the farmers hit a point where they could not proceed any more, a seemingly invisible force preventing exit from the village. After the tribe leaders were quickly alerted to this, an emergency meeting was held between them.
Sending out members to scout the perimeter, it quickly became clear that this barrier surrounded the whole village, and that failing to find a way past it would eventually lead to food shortages and the starvation of the people. The flow of time within the dome appeared to be distorted, preventing crops from growing as quickly as they should've done. Digging underneath and attempting to pass overhead were both met with failure, the constant ripples across the barrier serving as a reminder of their confinement to their own home and seclusion from the outside world. Having ventured out further than others could, it didn’t take the twins long to realise that they could simply pass through the barrier.
Electrokinesis didn’t appear to be the only gift the hybrids had been given at birth. Having roots from both worlds meant that their bodies were naturally able to respond to both Chaos and Sol energy, but only when they were together. This phenomenon was what allowed them to wander in and out as they pleased, blissfully unaware that they were the only ones capable of doing so. From the outside, it appeared as though the village wasn’t even there, its view apparently obscured from others by the energies of the barrier.
Once this news reached the leaders, the twins were tasked with finding a way to remove the invisible dome surrounding the village which would save the people from eventual starvation. As advised by one of the wise elders, the city of Spagonia would be an ideal starting point, home to some of the world’s smartest students and professors, as well as an extensive library holding all sorts of information in the form of books.
With their destination set, the twins set out on their adventure, this time not for the thrills and giggles, but for the fate of all their people.

Tale 1
CHAPTER 1
A refreshing breeze swept through the dry, rolling grasslands of the Mazuri Savannah. One young Cheetah had decided to rest against a small tree, arms up behind his head. Such foliage did little to offer any sort of shade from the sun, but basking in its full heat appeared to be the more favourable option for him.
Soft breaths could be heard as he appeared to be peacefully napping.
This peace would not last for long however, a closed eyelid slowly opening from the sudden absence of light against it. The obstruction had come in the form of another young Cheetah, a female that appeared to be more upbeat and quirky than the resting counterpart. Her hands were behind her back, and she appeared to be holding something.
“Hey Volt! Look what I–”
“You’re blocking the sun.”
She pouted.
“Forget the sun! Look wha–”
“Move.”
His other eye opened, delivering a blank stare towards the other. With an audible huff, she moved out of the way, allowing the flow of the sun’s heat to return to him. Once this was done, he closed his eyes again.
“Hey! You didn’t even look!”
Volt’s eyes opened yet again at the persistence of the female, an expression of slight annoyance present on his face.
“… What?”
A pure smile formed on hers, as both hands were brought forward to reveal a sleek bow, expertly carved from fine wood. Lightness and slender curves gave the weapon a quality finish, both ends being connected by a taut string.
“Tada!”
Volt placed both his hands on the ground as he sat up to get a better look. Although he was quite impressed by his siblings craftsmanship, he downplayed his reaction, expressed through a simple shrug.
“Hm. Pretty neat I guess.”
Excited nodding could be seen from the other.
“Uh-huh! I need a special type of wood for the arrows though. It's the branches of that tree over there. Can you help me?”
She pointed out the specified tree as she delivered her request.
“What's so special about that wood?”
“It's more aerodynamically suitable for objects travelling at a high velocity!”
Volt blinked twice.
“... In English?”
“That was in English!”
“Yeah, for nerds.”
“Hey!”
“Why can't you get it yourself anyway?”
“Because!
I can’t climb trees as well as you…” she muttered, looking off to the side.
Volt let out a short laugh at this.
“Sucks to be you, doesn’t it?”
“I bet you couldn't make something as cool as this though!”
“Yeah I could.”
“Prove it!”
“... No.”
“Then at least help mee!”
“No.”
She poked him in the forehead with the bow.
“Pleeeease!”
“Go away, Lex.”
The greatest thing about her – to Volt at least, was her uncanny ability to be incredibly annoying to only him, so her persistence came as no surprise.
"I'll start crying!"
"Don't."
She took a deep breath.
"Cry, and I swear to gaia I'll knock you out."
“I'm telling mama! ”
“That what, you can't climb trees?”
"No, that you're being mean!"
“...”
As much as he didn't want to help her out right now, he knew that he definitely didn't want to get a scolding from their mother. Her gaze alone was enough to strike fear into people. Besides, at least he’d finally get his sibling to go away afterwards. Maybe he could enjoy the rest of his afternoon nap in peace.
“Tch… Real mature.”
"So you'll help me?"
"... Whatever."
An excited squeal was let out.
“Yaay!”
